Saint Charles Borromeo

Born at Arona, Italy, in 1538, Saint Charles became a bishop and cardinal of Milan during the period of the Counter-Reformation. He was active in carrying out the reform dictates of the Council of Trent in his dioceses and is remembered for his intense pastoral activity and his works of charity, especially during the plague of 1576.
