All Hallows Eve - Halloween - October 31

All Hallows Eve
Halloween
October 31

For the past few years I have been on a campaign to take back All Hallows Eve to its rightful Christian roots, after all this night is the vigil of All Saints Day a Holy Day of Obligation, a day set aside in the 9th century to commemorate all who have died and gone to heaven.  A day for those who persevered to the end, crossed the finish line, and now sit before God in the presence of the Beatific Vision.  This is a goal we should all long for, strive for.  A goal none of us deserve, and can only achieve through God's grace.

Unfortunately in some places Halloween has been usurped by some who use this night as an excuse to engage in activities that promote evil and destruction.  So "be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour." (1 Peter 5:8)

Happy All Hallows Eve, and I've just got to say it or I have to turn in my "Mother Card," please be careful out there.

Prayer to Saint Michael

May Saint Michael the Archangel,
defend us in the day of battle.
Be our protection against the wickedness
and snares of the devil;
May God rebuke him,
we humbly pray;
And do thou,
O Prince of the Heavenly host,
By the divine power of God,
thrust into hell Satan and all evil spirits
Who wander through the world
Seeking the ruin of souls. Amen
