Saint Aloysius Gonzaga - June 21

Saint Aloysius Gonzaga
June 21

Saint Aloysius Gonzaga was born of the princely family of Castiglione in 1568 near Mantau in Lombardy.  Instructed in piety by his mother, he manifested an inclination to religious life.  He legally delivered his share of the ancestral dominion to his brother and entered the Society of Jesus.  While serving the sick during a plague, he himself contacted the disease and died in 1591.

Saint Aloysius is the patron saint of Catholic youth, teenagers, especially of young priests, novices and seminarians.  For his compassion and courage in the face of an incurable disease, Saint Aloysius Gonzaga has also become the patron of both AIDS sufferers and their caregivers.  Saint Aloysius Gonzaga pray for us.
