Saint John Neumann
January 5

Saint John Neumann came to the United States in 1836 to serve as a priest in western New York.  He joined the Redemptorists and was their superior in Baltimore when he was elected bishop of Philadelphia in 1852.

He died at the age of 49 in January of 1860.  His remains, which are remarkably well preserved after a century of internment were exhumed and placed in a glass encasement beneath the altar at St. Peter the Apostle in Philadelphia. To read more about his life visit this link regarding his shrine.
