Respect Life Sunday (A Voice for Those Who Have No Voice) - Twenty-Seventh Sunday in Ordinary Time (First Sunday of October)

Respect Life Sunday falls on the first Sunday of October.  It also falls shortly after the start of the Fall 40 Days for Life Campaign, a campaign that began in College Station, Texas and today has grown worldwide. 
On this Sunday it is customary for our priests to speak about the reason the Catholic Church continues to respect life and speak out for those who have no voice of their own.  
The following is a sermon, given in 2015, by Msgr E. James Hart, former pastor of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton, he is now Chancellor and Moderator if the Curia in North Texas.  The last sermon is from Father James Kubicki, S.J. of the Apostleship of Prayer.

First Sunday of October

“Even the weakest and most vulnerable, the sick, the old, the unborn and the poor, are masterpieces of God’s creation, made in his own image, destined to live forever, and deserving of the utmost reverence and respect.  (Pope Francis’ Day for Life Greeting)

For over 40 years the first Sunday of October has been known as Respect Life Sunday.  The 2014 theme, “Each of Us is a Masterpiece of God’s Creation,” should give us all something to reflect upon.  And though the Church sets aside October in particular to pray for respect for all human life, this is something we can all pray for everyday of the year. 

One organization which does just this is 40 Days for Life.  Since its inception in 2007, through God's Grace, prayer, fasting and peaceful vigils, over 9,000 lives have been saved, 56 abortion centers have been closed, and 101 abortion workers have left their jobs,  the most widely known being former Director of Planned Parenthood, Abby Johnson who resigned in October 2009.  To get involved where you live, visit 40 Days for Life.
