Respect Life Sunday
First Sunday of October
“Even the weakest and most vulnerable, the sick, the old,
the unborn and the poor, are masterpieces of God’s creation, made in his own
image, destined to live forever, and deserving of the utmost reverence and
respect. (Pope Francis’ Day for Life
Greeting)
For over 40 years the first Sunday of October has been known
as Respect Life Sunday. The 2014 theme, “Each
of Us is a Masterpiece of God’s Creation,” should give us all something to
reflect upon. And though the Church sets
aside October in particular to pray for respect for all human life, this is
something we can all pray for everyday of the year.
One organization which does just this is 40 Days for Life. Since its inception in 2007, through God's Grace, prayer, fasting and peaceful vigils, over 9,000 lives have been saved, 56
abortion centers have been closed, and 101 abortion workers have left their
jobs, the most widely known being former
Director of Planned Parenthood, Abby Johnson who resigned in October 2009. To get involved where you live, visit 40 Days for Life.
