In 164 BC after a victorious battle against the Seleucid’s, as the Jewish people prepared to rededicate their Holy Temple by lighting the Temple Menorah, they found only enough sacred oil to light the Menorah for one day. Miraculously God provided for this oil to burn for eight days until new oil could be prepared to keep the Temple Menorah burning. Hanukkah, the Feast of Dedication recalls this miracle. Tonight the first night of Hanukkah, Jewish families across the world will light the first candle of their Menorah in commemoration of this miracle.
