The Sermon on the Mount - Teachings of Jesus

The Sermon on the Mount
Teaching of Jesus
Matthew 5:1-7:29

The Sermon on the Mount is the first of the five discourses in which Saint Matthew brings together Jesus’ teachings on the Kingdom of God.  In this discourse we find a summary of the sorts of people who belong to the Kingdom (Matthew 5:3-12).The kinds of attitudes we should have toward the Law (Matthew 5:17-48, 6:16-18).  Our attitudes toward God (Matthew 6:25-34) and toward one another (6:1-4; 7:1-5). And finally Jesus will teach us how to pray (Matthew 6:7-14, 7:7-11) This will be the index for an ongoing blog.
The Beatitudes
"Blessed are the poor in spirit,
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are they who mourn,
for they will be comforted.
Blessed are they who hunger and thirst
for righteousness,
for they will be satisfied.
Blessed are the merciful,
for they will be shown mercy.
Blessed are the clean of heart,
for they will see God.
Blessed are the peacemakers,
for they will be called the children of God.
Blessed are they who are persecuted for
the sake of righteousness,
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven."
